Red Fox Freed After Being Found With Pipe Around Neck in Pennsylvania

24 November 2025 Bizarre

BROOMALL, Pa. — November 24, 2025 — A red fox that had been seen wandering with a plastic drainage pipe stuck around its neck since October was captured and freed by an animal rescue group in Pennsylvania, officials said.

Good Boy Dog Recovery reported that rescuers had been searching for the fox in the Broomall area of Delaware County since first spotting the animal with the pipe in October. The fox, initially nicknamed Sly, was finally captured Saturday evening.

The animal was taken to the Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center, where it was determined to be female and subsequently renamed Lady Sly. According to the center, Lady Sly was cooperative during treatment and allowed the pipe to be removed without sedation.

Following the removal of the pipe, Lady Sly was vaccinated for rabies and distemper. She was released back into the wild on the same day as her capture, officials said.

The rescue effort highlights ongoing concerns about wildlife entanglement in human-made debris and the importance of rehabilitation centers in aiding affected animals.
