San Diego Zoo Reveals Three New Fossa Pups Exploring Their Habitat
SAN DIEGO, Calif. — November 27, 2025 — The San Diego Zoo has introduced three fossa pups born at the facility in July who have just started to explore their enclosure, officials said. The pups, two males named Isalo and Fiaro and a female named Volana, spent their first three months in the den with their mother, Kintana, before emerging to climb and explore their surroundings.
Zoo representatives noted that the pups are now visible to visitors as they begin to learn from their mother and navigate their habitat in the Africa Rocks section of the zoo. Kintana, the mother, was part of the zoo’s last fossa litter born in 2017, while the father, Charlie, was born at the zoo in 2008.
Fossas are cat-like predators belonging to the mongoose family and are considered a vulnerable species. Since 1989, the San Diego Zoo has contributed to the global population by welcoming more than 40 fossa pups, according to zoo officials. The recent births continue the zoo’s efforts to support this unique and little-known species.
