Israel Releases Body-Cam Footage of Deadly Syria Raid Targeting Muslim Brotherhood-Linked Militants

BEIT JANN, Syria — November 28, 2025 — The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) released body-camera footage Friday showing a rare gun battle in southern Syria during an overnight operation targeting members of al-Jama’a al-Islamiyya, a Sunni militant group affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood, officials said.

The raid took place approximately 10 kilometers inside Syrian territory in the Beit Jann area under the command of the IDF’s 210th Division. According to the IDF, troops from the 55th Brigade entered the area to detain suspects involved in planting improvised explosive devices and planning attacks against Israel, including potential rocket fire.

During the operation, two suspects were arrested before an exchange of fire erupted. Six Israeli soldiers were wounded, with three reported in serious condition. The IDF stated that several terrorists were killed and that the detainees were transferred to Israel for interrogation.

Al-Jama’a al-Islamiyya, identified by Israel as part of the broader Muslim Brotherhood network, was founded as the Lebanese branch of the Brotherhood and has cooperated with Hamas and Hezbollah. The group maintains infrastructure in southern Lebanon and along the Syria-Lebanon border. The IDF has repeatedly targeted the organization’s sites in Syria and Lebanon during the ongoing conflict.

This incident marks the first time since December 2024, when Israeli forces took control of the Syrian side of Mount Hermon, that Israeli troops were wounded in a firefight in Syria, according to Channel 12 political correspondent Amit Segal. He noted the event raises questions about whether this signals a prolonged Israeli military presence in Syria.

The raid coincides with heightened tensions between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Syrian interim president Ahmed al-Sharaa. Earlier this month, Sharaa made an unprecedented visit to Washington, D.C., where he met with U.S. President Donald Trump to discuss sanctions relief and counterterrorism cooperation. Netanyahu publicly criticized the visit, warning that U.S.-Syria discussions must not come at Israel’s expense.

The IDF secured the area around Beit Jann following the operation, which represents one of the most serious clashes on the Syrian front this year. The release of the body-camera footage provides a rare glimpse into the close-quarters combat Israeli forces encountered during the arrest operation.
