Kim Kardashian Discusses Challenges of Coparenting with Kanye West
LOS ANGELES — Kim Kardashian has spoken candidly about the difficulties she faces in coparenting with her ex-husband, Kanye West, highlighting the impact his public behavior has on her role as a mother. According to Kardashian, managing their shared parenting responsibilities is a complex and often frustrating experience.
Kardashian, who filed for divorce from West in February 2021, said she primarily raises their four children—North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm—full-time. She expressed a desire for her children to maintain a healthy relationship with their father despite the challenges. “I welcome a great healthy relationship with my kids and their dad, and I think he knows that. I push for it all the time, but I also protect them when it’s time for that,” she said.
In a recent episode of the television series “The Kardashians,” filmed earlier this year, Kardashian opened up about the strain caused by West’s public outbursts. She described the situation as “hard” and acknowledged feeling frustrated that her character as a mother is diminished because of his behavior. “Sometimes I just feel like snapping, but I can’t. I just can’t,” she said.
Kardashian also noted that contact between West and the children depends on when he reaches out, adding that it had been a couple of months since they last heard from him. She emphasized the effort involved in coparenting, describing it as going “in waves and phases” and requiring a lot of work.
During a conversation with family friend Scott Disick on the show, Kardashian mentioned that West had not called recently, despite her encouragement of a healthy relationship between him and the children. Disick responded by acknowledging that the situation was not healthy.
Kardashian concluded by stating that her primary focus is to remain strong for her children amid the ongoing challenges. “My only focus and job is really just to be strong for my kids,” she said.
The episode featuring these discussions is available for streaming on Hulu and Disney+.
