TEL AVIV, Israel — December 3, 2025 — An Israeli mother has made an emotional appeal to the Trump administration and international mediators to help bring home the last two hostages held in Gaza, including her son, Ran Gvili, who was killed during the October 7, 2023, terror attacks but whose body remains in Gaza.

Ran Gvili was recognized for his bravery during the Hamas attack on southern Israel, where he served in the police counter-terror unit. Despite a broken shoulder from a recent motorbike accident, Gvili responded immediately to the alarms on Oct. 7, 2023, donning his police uniform and rushing into the conflict.

According to family accounts, Gvili and a friend drove to the Nova music festival, rescuing dozens of people amid the chaos. He then joined his fellow officers in Kibbutz Alumim, where he fought to stop a massacre. Despite sustaining injuries to his leg and arm, Gvili continued to fight, reportedly killing more than a dozen terrorists and protecting families in their homes. Residents of the kibbutz referred to him as the “Shield of Alumim.”

Two weeks after the attack, Gvili was kidnapped and taken to Gaza by Hamas. On January 24, 2024, his family was informed that he had been killed, but his body has not been returned. His mother continues to hold onto hope for a miracle, despite the grim circumstances.

The hostage crisis began with 255 people taken into Gaza during the attacks. Over two years later, only two hostages remain unaccounted for. Families of the hostages have formed a close-knit community, supporting each other through the prolonged ordeal. Public rallies have called for the immediate return of the remains of all hostages held in Gaza.

Gvili’s mother has publicly urged the Trump administration and mediators to intensify efforts to secure the return of the final hostages and the remains of those who have died, emphasizing the enduring pain and hope experienced by families affected by the crisis.
