New York Man Arrested Following Violent Queens Street Takeover That Left Couple Beaten and Car Torched

QUEENS, N.Y. — Authorities in New York City have arrested 19-year-old Justin Aguilera in connection with a violent street takeover that erupted in the Malba neighborhood of Queens late last month, resulting in a brutal assault on a married couple and the torching of a neighbor’s vehicle. The incident, which unfolded around 12:30 a.m. on November 23, was captured on video and quickly circulated on social media, prompting widespread outrage and a swift police response.

The footage, shared publicly by City Councilwoman Vickie Paladino, shows a mob of approximately 40 vehicles engaging in reckless driving maneuvers such as doing donuts in a residential street, accompanied by fireworks and chaotic scenes of destruction. At one point, a car belonging to a local resident was set ablaze, while a husband and wife were attacked in the front yard of their home amid the disorder.

According to Paladino, who represents the Malba area, Aguilera was identified as the “main assault perpetrator” and now faces a series of serious charges, including gang assault, riot, assault, and trespassing. “We all saw the blurry videos,” Paladino said in a social media post. “You know how hard it was to track a car and to track the [license] plate? [It] didn’t come easy, but they got the job done. We’re just getting started, but it’s a hell of a way to start.”

Residents described the scene as terrifying. Larry Rusch, a private security guard living in the neighborhood, told The New York Post that he heard the commotion outside and counted around 40 vehicles racing through the streets. In an effort to halt the chaos, Rusch parked his own car in the intersection to block the drivers. However, the crowd responded by throwing fireworks that ignited one of the parked cars, reigniting the mayhem.

Blake Ferrer, another local resident, was reportedly assaulted by members of the mob after confronting them to protect his property. “When I came out, I said, ‘Bro, you gotta get the f— off my property,’” Ferrer recounted. The violent encounter underscores the dangerous nature of these illegal street gatherings, which have become a growing concern for public safety officials.

Street takeovers, often characterized by large groups of drivers performing dangerous stunts on public roads, have been linked to organized crime rings that exploit young drivers to steal cars for these reckless events. The New York Police Department has intensified efforts to crack down on such activities, which pose significant risks to residents and motorists alike.

City officials and law enforcement agencies continue to urge residents to report suspicious activity and have highlighted the importance of community cooperation in combating these violent gatherings. The NYPD has dedicated resources to investigating and prosecuting those responsible, emphasizing that public safety remains a top priority.

Aguilera’s arrest marks a significant step in addressing the recent surge in street takeover incidents across the city. His charges carry severe penalties, reflecting the serious harm inflicted on the victims and the community. As investigations continue, authorities are committed to preventing further violence and ensuring that neighborhoods like Malba can remain safe and peaceful. The community’s response, combined with law enforcement’s resolve, signals a concerted effort to end the dangerous practice of illegal street takeovers in New York City.
