Lorenzo Lamas Endorses Republican Chad Bianco for California Governor, Criticizes Newsom’s Leadership

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Hollywood actor Lorenzo Lamas, known for his action-packed roles in the 1980s and 1990s, has publicly endorsed Riverside Sheriff Chad Bianco in the 2026 California gubernatorial race, sharply criticizing Governor Gavin Newsom’s administration for its impact on the state. Lamas described the current Democratic leadership as having a “devastating” effect on California’s governance, economy, and public safety.

In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, Lamas explained that while he has traditionally refrained from political commentary, the situation in California compelled him to speak out. “The impact on the state of California with the current [Newsom] administration is nothing short of devastating,” he said. “We have to start at least voicing what we feel is wrong with what’s happening.”

Lamas, a longtime resident of California, lamented the state’s mismanagement despite its status as the world’s fifth-largest economy and its vast natural resources. He described the Democratic Party’s entrenched control over the state as “a sickness that’s permeated the state from the top to the bottom.”

Among his concerns, Lamas highlighted the ongoing homelessness crisis and questioned the effectiveness and accountability of welfare programs. “We have to figure out what we’re going to do with the people that are disenfranchised and living on the streets, the programs that supposedly are budgeted for these folks, where is that money? … There’s nobody that’s accounting for the millions of dollars that are spent on welfare programs that’s not benefiting anybody that can use it,” he said.

Lamas also reflected on the recent natural disasters that have ravaged California, including the devastating wildfires that destroyed his childhood home and elementary school in Pacific Palisades. “Why? Because not enough budget was allocated to resources to fight the fire,” he said. He criticized the bureaucratic delays that prevent displaced residents from rebuilding, noting that many second- and third-generation Californians are unable to return to their communities due to red tape.

“Chad wants to just eliminate it,” Lamas said of Bianco’s pledge to cut through the bureaucracy and streamline rebuilding efforts.

Chad Bianco, a Republican and Riverside County Sheriff, has positioned himself as a pro-law enforcement candidate focused on public safety and government accountability. His campaign comes as California voters face a choice between continuing Democratic leadership under Newsom or electing a Republican governor for the first time in decades.

The endorsement from a Hollywood figure like Lamas underscores the growing political tensions within California, where issues such as crime, homelessness, and disaster response remain hot-button topics. The state’s governance has also drawn scrutiny from federal agencies like the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency due to the scale of its natural disasters and infrastructure challenges.

Governor Gavin Newsom, who has been in office since 2019, has faced criticism from various quarters for his handling of the state’s crises. His administration’s policies on housing, public safety, and environmental management continue to be debated as the 2026 gubernatorial election approaches.

For voters seeking more information on California’s governance and emergency management, resources are available through the official California state website and the California Department of Public Health, which provide updates on state initiatives and disaster response efforts.

As the campaign heats up, endorsements like Lamas’s may influence public opinion in a state that remains politically complex and deeply divided over its future direction.
