NEW YORK, N.Y. — Authorities apprehended Frederick Green, 20, a Bronx resident, late Monday night in connection with the shooting of New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd, police announced Tuesday. Green faces multiple charges including attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon, following an incident that left Boyd hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

The shooting occurred in the early hours of November 16 outside a Midtown Manhattan restaurant, where Boyd was with fellow Jets players Irvin Charles and Jamien Sherwood, as well as a friend. According to the New York Police Department, the group was approached by several men who mocked their clothing, escalating into a physical altercation. During the confrontation, Boyd was shot and the assailant fled the scene.

Boyd, who joined the Jets earlier this year after stints with the Houston Texans and Minnesota Vikings, had been on injured reserve since August due to a training camp injury. He was rushed to a hospital where he underwent treatment and spent several days recovering before being discharged. However, he continues to face ongoing health challenges related to the wound.

Green was initially taken into custody in Buffalo, New York, earlier Monday but was not immediately charged or publicly identified. The NYPD confirmed his identity and charges late Monday night. It remains unclear whether Green has retained legal representation.

The investigation highlights ongoing concerns about violence affecting professional athletes and public safety in the city. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York is expected to be involved as the case proceeds.

Boyd’s shooting drew widespread attention across the sports and law enforcement communities, with officials emphasizing the importance of swift justice. The NFL has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.

For further details on the investigation and updates on the legal proceedings, the public is encouraged to follow releases from the NYPD Crime Stoppers and the Department of Justice. This case remains under active investigation as authorities work to ensure accountability and safety for all involved.
