Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing on Florida I-95, Collides with Car

10 December 2025 U.S. News

MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. — A small Beechcraft 55 aircraft made a dramatic emergency landing on Interstate 95 Monday evening, striking a Toyota Camry in the process but causing only minor injuries to those involved. The incident occurred around 5:45 p.m. when the plane experienced engine trouble and the pilot opted to land on the busy Florida freeway to avoid a potentially worse outcome.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the pilot, a 27-year-old man from Orlando, and his passenger, also 27 and from Temple Terrace, were unharmed. The vehicle involved, a 2023 Toyota Camry driven by a 57-year-old woman, sustained damage when the plane landed on top of it. The driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, authorities confirmed.

Video footage circulating online shows the plane descending onto the freeway as the Camry was traveling along the road. The aircraft appears to have touched down directly on the vehicle before skidding forward onto the pavement. The Florida Highway Patrol responded promptly to the scene to secure the area and assist those involved.

Emergency landings on highways are rare but not unprecedented, and pilots are trained to seek the safest possible landing spots when engine failure or other mechanical issues arise mid-flight. The FAA continues to investigate the cause of the engine trouble that led to the incident.

The Federal Aviation Administration’s quick communication and the Florida Highway Patrol’s rapid response helped ensure that the crash did not result in more serious injuries or secondary accidents on the busy interstate. The incident highlights the importance of pilot training and emergency preparedness in aviation safety.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) typically investigates such accidents to determine the root cause and recommend safety improvements. Their findings will be awaited closely by both aviation authorities and the public.

This event serves as a reminder of the critical role that agencies like the FAA and NTSB play in maintaining air travel safety, as well as the vigilance of state patrol units in managing unexpected emergencies on roadways. Drivers on I-95 experienced delays as authorities cleared the scene, but the swift handling of the incident prevented further complications.

For more information on aviation safety protocols and emergency procedures, the FAA provides extensive resources on its official website. The Florida Highway Patrol and local emergency services continue to monitor the situation and offer assistance to those affected.
