Cincinnati Bengals’ Cam Taylor-Britt Sentenced to Jail Following Reckless Driving Guilty Plea

7 January 2026 Sports

CINCINNATI, Ohio — Cam Taylor-Britt, the Cincinnati Bengals’ cornerback entering his fourth NFL season, was sentenced Tuesday to five days in jail after pleading guilty to reckless driving and driving without a license. The sentence, handed down by Hamilton County Judge Bernie Bouchard, will be served immediately, with Taylor-Britt taken into custody shortly after the hearing.

Taylor-Britt, 26, was cited for street racing on September 19, 2025, according to Cincinnati police records. This was preceded by an earlier reckless driving citation in June of the same year. Despite these incidents, the Bengals allowed him to complete the season before the legal proceedings concluded. The reckless driving charge is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 30 days in jail and/or a $250 fine, but Judge Bouchard declined to offer community service as an alternative, emphasizing the importance of immediate incarceration.

“That’s a gift,” Judge Bouchard told Taylor-Britt in court, referencing the reduced sentence. “Five days instead of 30. He’s got to do them now. It’ll be over soon enough.” Taylor-Britt was booked at 11:23 a.m. and is expected to be released on January 11.

Arriving at court on crutches due to a Lisfranc injury in his left foot, which recently required surgery, Taylor-Britt expressed remorse for his actions. “I just want to apologize, first and foremost, for my actions that I’ve put everybody else through,” he said. “Not intentional in [any] way.” The cornerback’s injury has sidelined him for part of the season, during which the Bengals have relied on Dax Hill and DJ Turner II as their primary cornerbacks.

Throughout his four seasons with Cincinnati, Taylor-Britt has compiled 203 combined tackles, seven interceptions, two forced fumbles, and 38 passes defended. His rookie contract is set to expire with the upcoming NFL league year, and he is expected to enter free agency.

The Bengals’ decision to allow Taylor-Britt to finish the season despite the legal issues reflects a broader NFL trend of teams balancing player conduct with on-field contributions. The league’s stance on reckless driving and related offenses has been evolving, with the NFL Players Association advocating for player support alongside accountability.
