Washington Commanders’ Marshon Lattimore Arrested on Weapons Charges in Ohio
LAKEWOOD, Ohio — Marshon Lattimore, the Washington Commanders’ standout cornerback, was arrested Wednesday night on weapons charges following a traffic stop in Lakewood, Ohio. Police charged Lattimore with carrying a concealed weapon and improperly handling a firearm in a vehicle after officers pulled over the car for an expired license plate and other traffic violations. Authorities said Lattimore, who was a passenger in the vehicle, failed to inform the officer about the presence of a gun when asked.
The Commanders confirmed they are aware of the arrest and have notified the NFL League Office. In a statement to the National Football League, the team said it is “gathering more information” and declined further comment at this time. Lattimore was later released without posting bond.
Lattimore, 29, an Ohio native, has a prior legal history involving firearms. In November 2021, he pleaded guilty to carrying a concealed weapon during a traffic stop in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, resulting in one year of non-reporting probation. That incident similarly involved Lattimore as a passenger in a vehicle.
Selected 11th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft after a decorated career at Ohio State, Lattimore spent eight seasons with the New Orleans Saints before being traded to Washington in 2024. He earned Defensive Rookie of the Year honors in 2017 and has been selected to four Pro Bowls, including three consecutive appearances from 2019 to 2021. Over 108 career games, Lattimore has accumulated 16 interceptions, 436 combined tackles, and 98 passes defended.
His current season was cut short by an ACL tear suffered during the Commanders’ 38-14 home loss to the Seattle Seahawks, limiting him to just nine games in 2025. Despite the injury, Lattimore remains a key figure in Washington’s defensive lineup.
The Lakewood Police Department conducted the traffic stop and subsequent arrest. According to Ohio Attorney General guidelines, failure to disclose a firearm during a lawful stop can result in serious charges, including concealed weapons violations.
The Commanders’ organization has pledged cooperation with authorities as the investigation continues. Meanwhile, the NFL’s conduct policies will likely come under scrutiny as the league assesses the situation.

As this story develops, the Washington Commanders and the NFL face questions about the implications for Lattimore’s career and the team’s defensive prospects moving forward.
