Taylor Swift Expresses Discomfort After Private Texts With Blake Lively Are Unsealed Amid Legal Battle

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — A series of private text messages between pop icon Taylor Swift and actress Blake Lively were unsealed last week, shedding light on the personal toll of Lively’s ongoing legal dispute with her It Ends With Us co-star Justin Baldoni. The messages, which reveal blunt and sometimes harsh language, have left Swift reportedly feeling uncomfortable about the public exposure of her private communications.

Blake Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni in December 2024, accusing him of sexual harassment and retaliation, allegations he has denied. Baldoni subsequently countersued Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and their publicist Leslie Sloane, alleging extortion and defamation; those claims were dismissed in June 2025. Lively’s case is scheduled to go to trial in May 2026.

Among the unsealed documents reviewed by BuzzFeed News, Swift appears as a longtime friend and potential witness in the case. The texts show Lively reaching out to Swift to endorse a revised script for It Ends With Us, to which Swift responded enthusiastically, “I’ll do anything for you !!”

However, the exchanges also reveal the strain the legal battle has placed on their friendship. Both women express frustration toward Baldoni, with Lively calling him a “doofus director” and “clown,” while Swift allegedly referred to him as a “bitch.” In a particularly candid moment, Lively confesses feeling like “a bad friend” for focusing heavily on her own struggles during the ordeal. Swift replies that it is “not a big deal” but admits sensing “a shift” in Lively’s tone, comparing her messages to “a mass corporate email sent to 200 employees.”

“You said the word ‘we’ like 18 times,” Swift allegedly wrote, adding that she missed her “funny, dark, normal-speaking friend who talks to me as herself, not like a plural unit.” Lively reportedly agreed and apologized.

While Swift has not publicly commented on the unsealing of the texts, a source told People Magazine that the situation left her feeling “uncomfortable.” The source explained, “Taylor feels like her privacy was impacted. Anyone would be uncomfortable if their private texts were suddenly made public.” They added that Swift “was just being a friend to Blake, and it’s turned into something bigger than she ever expected,” and that she is now “just trying to stay away from the drama.”

Swift’s representatives have declined to comment on the recent revelations. Previously, her spokesperson firmly denied any involvement with the film It Ends With Us, stating, “Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film, she did not even see It Ends With Us until weeks after its public release, and was traveling around the globe during 2023 and 2024 headlining the biggest tour in history.”

The unsealing of these texts comes amid heightened public interest in the legal battle, which has drawn attention to issues of workplace harassment and the complexities of public and private lives intersecting. Those affected by sexual assault can contact the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1-800-656-HOPE (4673), which connects callers to local support services.

As the trial date approaches, the personal toll on those involved continues to unfold beyond the courtroom, highlighting the challenges celebrities face when private communications become public fodder in high-profile legal disputes.
