NFL Confirms No ICE Operations at Super Bowl LX Amid Speculation
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — As Super Bowl LX approaches this Sunday at Levi’s Stadium, the National Football League has put to rest weeks of speculation regarding the presence of federal immigration enforcement at the event. NFL Chief Security Officer Cathy Lanier confirmed on Tuesday that no U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations are planned in connection with the Super Bowl or any related activities.
Lanier addressed the media ahead of the highly anticipated matchup between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks, emphasizing that while federal agents may be present for security purposes, there will be no immigration enforcement actions taking place. “There are no planned ICE or immigration enforcement operations that are scheduled around the Super Bowl or any of the Super Bowl-related events,” Lanier stated.
This announcement follows a report from The Washington Post earlier this week that had fueled concerns about potential ICE activity at the event. The NFL’s clarification aims to ease worries among attendees, local communities, and advocacy groups who had expressed apprehension about the possibility of immigration crackdowns during one of the nation’s largest sporting events.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) often coordinates with local and state authorities to ensure security at major events, but the league’s statement makes clear that any federal presence will not involve immigration enforcement. According to DHS guidelines, such operations are typically conducted discreetly and are not tied to public events like the Super Bowl.
Levi’s Stadium, located in Santa Clara, California, is hosting the 60th edition of the Super Bowl, drawing tens of thousands of fans, media personnel, and dignitaries.
