SEATTLE, Wash. — Amazon has taken a significant step in expanding the reach of its virtual assistant, Alexa, by launching Alexa.com, a browser-based version of its Alexa+ service. This new platform, now available to Early Access users in the United States, allows subscribers to engage with Alexa directly through their web browsers, breaking the traditional dependency on Echo devices or mobile apps.
For years, Alexa’s presence was largely confined to physical smart speakers placed around homes or integrated into Amazon’s Fire TV and Fire tablets. While effective for tasks like playing music or setting timers, this setup limited the assistant’s availability to specific locations. Alexa.com changes this dynamic by enabling users to open a laptop or desktop browser and interact with Alexa as they would with any other AI tool online.
Alexa.com is essentially the web incarnation of Alexa+, Amazon’s premium subscription service, offering users the ability to type questions, explore topics, plan trips, organize tasks, and create content without needing to speak commands to a device. One of the standout features of this service is its continuity across devices. To access Alexa.com, users must hold an Alexa+ Early Access subscription, have an Amazon account linked to a compatible Echo, Fire TV, or Fire tablet, and reside in the United States with their device language set to English (U.S.). Notably, child profiles are not supported on this browser version, and older Echo devices will continue to operate with the original Alexa experience.
