Browns’ Shedeur Sanders Rejects Claims of Sabotage by Coach Kevin Stefanski
CLEVELAND, Ohio — November 28, 2025 — Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders dismissed allegations from some supporters that head coach Kevin Stefanski was undermining his progress. Sanders made franchise history by becoming the first Browns rookie quarterback since 1999 to win his first career start, a milestone achieved in a Week 12 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders.
Speaking to reporters, Sanders addressed the claims directly after a question referenced fans who accused Stefanski of “sabotaging” him. “So, you just want to start trouble, huh?” Sanders responded, emphasizing that such outside opinions do not affect his relationship with the coach or his role on the team.
Despite competition from fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel, who was recently cleared from concussion protocol, Stefanski chose to keep Sanders as the starting quarterback for the upcoming week. Sanders highlighted that what happens outside the team environment is beyond his control and that he focuses on his responsibilities on the field.
“Overall, I’m just happy to be here. Coach Stefanski has been coaching since I got here, and he’s been doing a great job with everything that’s going on,” Sanders said. He described his relationship with Stefanski as a typical coach-player dynamic, with Stefanski providing guidance on what Sanders needs to do both on and off the field. “We’ve definitely grown — our relationship and everything has grown. So I’m just thankful to be here.”
Sanders’ first career touchdown pass came during the victory over the Raiders, connecting with rookie running back Dylan Sampson on a 66-yard catch-and-run play. The Browns won the game 24-10, marking a significant achievement for Sanders early in his NFL career.
The Browns’ decision to maintain Sanders as the starter reflects Stefanski’s confidence in the rookie quarterback’s development and performance. Sanders’ comments underscore his focus on team dynamics and his appreciation for Stefanski’s coaching amid external speculation.
