Buffalo Sets New World Record with Largest Chicken Wing Eating Contest
BUFFALO, N.Y. — In a spirited celebration of its signature dish, the city of Buffalo shattered the Guinness World Record for the largest chicken wing eating contest on Saturday. The event, held at the Buffalo Convention Center, drew 499 participants, surpassing the previous record of 397 set by Amazon Web Services in 2018.
The contest was part of the Revelas Family Foundation’s annual “A Not So Silent Night” fundraiser, which aims to support Horizon Health Services’ Teen Mental Health Program. Nick Revelas, president of the foundation, emphasized the importance of combining Buffalo’s culinary heritage with a mission to combat mental health stigma. “Breaking the stigma around mental health starts with education and community engagement. This event combines Buffalo’s love for wings with a mission that changes lives,” Revelas said.
A Guinness World Records adjudicator was present to officially confirm the new record, marking a milestone for the city known worldwide for its iconic chicken wings. The event not only highlighted Buffalo’s culinary pride but also underscored the community’s commitment to supporting youth mental health initiatives.
Buffalo’s chicken wings have long been a cultural and economic staple, drawing visitors and food enthusiasts alike. The city’s dedication to promoting mental health awareness through such a beloved tradition reflects a growing trend of leveraging popular events for social causes.
