David Rush Sets New Record Wearing 137 T-Shirts in Half Marathon

IDAHO — David “Record Breaker” Rush, known for holding multiple Guinness World Records simultaneously, completed a half marathon in Idaho while wearing 137 T-shirts, officials said. The cotton garments weighed a total of 48 pounds.

Rush originally set the record for the most T-shirts worn during a half marathon in 2019 with 111 shirts. However, he lost the title when another runner completed the race wearing 127 shirts. Determined to reclaim the record, Rush trained by running in heavy clothing and weighted backpacks.

He first attempted to break the record at the Famous Idaho Potato Half Marathon but had to stop after reaching 114 T-shirts due to circulation issues in his neck. Returning to the same event this year, Rush successfully finished the race wearing 137 T-shirts, reclaiming the Guinness World Records title.

“After years of effort and one spectacular failed attempt, I finally reclaimed the Guinness World Records title so I’m so glad I didn’t give up,” Rush said. “It was a mix of determination, creativity, endurance and a lot of T-shirts.”

Rush’s achievement adds to his reputation as a serial record-breaker, having previously set records in various unusual challenges.
