FBI Reports Violent Crime Arrests Nearly Double in Trump’s First Year in Office
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Federal Bureau of Investigation revealed a dramatic surge in violent crime arrests during the first year of the Trump administration, with totals nearly doubling compared to the previous four years under President Joe Biden. According to FBI data obtained by Fox News Digital, annual violent crime arrests, which had remained steady at roughly 6,000 to 7,000 during Biden’s tenure, jumped to nearly 14,000 from January 20 to December 22, 2025.
FBI Director Kash Patel attributed this substantial increase to a strategic realignment of the Bureau’s priorities and enhanced support for field offices across the country. “This is a direct result of the FBI prioritizing taking down violent crime and reorienting the Bureau to the focus off of Washington DC and give field personnel more tools they need to be successful in states and localities across the country,” Patel said in a statement. “In just one year we have essentially doubled our number of violent crime arrests and made massive strides in helping make America safer than ever before.”
The arrests encompass a wide range of offenses including gang-related violence, transnational organized crime, and child human trafficking. These figures were tracked across 17 key FBI field offices nationwide, revealing significant increases in many jurisdictions. Buffalo, New York, led the nation with a staggering 400% increase in violent crime arrests, soaring from 125 to 642. Jackson, Mississippi, saw arrests more than triple, rising 264.5% from 248 to 904. New York City, which recorded the highest volume of arrests, experienced a 175.2% increase, climbing from 621 to 1,709. Nashville’s arrests surged 160% to 871, and Detroit saw a 150.8% rise from 305 to 765.
Other major cities also reported notable increases, including New Orleans, Miami, Houston, and Dallas. The only exception was Seattle, where arrests declined by 7.5% from 320. Excluding crimes against children, total arrests more than doubled from 5,778 to 12,901.
This surge in enforcement aligns with broader federal efforts to combat violent crime, which have also included operations targeting criminal illegal immigrants, as noted by the Department of Homeland Security. Enhanced collaboration between federal, state, and local agencies has been a hallmark of these initiatives.
Experts highlight that the FBI’s shift in focus and resource allocation under the Trump administration reflects a nationwide push to address violent crime more aggressively. The Bureau’s renewed emphasis on field offices is designed to empower agents on the ground with better tools and support to dismantle criminal networks.

While the increase in arrests signals intensified law enforcement activity, officials caution that ongoing efforts are necessary to sustain reductions in violent crime and ensure community safety nationwide. The FBI continues to monitor trends closely and adapt strategies to emerging threats.
This data marks a significant shift in federal crime enforcement patterns and underscores the impact of administrative priorities on law enforcement outcomes.
