Firefighters Rescue Kitten Trapped Under Vehicle in South Carolina
BLUFFTON, S.C. — A quick-thinking driver and dedicated firefighters teamed up to rescue a kitten that found itself trapped beneath a vehicle on Bluffton Parkway last week. The tiny feline, later named Flash by rescuers, darted out into the road in front of a car and leapt into the undercarriage, seeking refuge and becoming stranded.
According to the Bluffton Township Fire Department, the driver immediately stopped after spotting the kitten and searched the area to ensure it had not been struck. Unable to locate the animal initially, the driver and his son were startled when faint meowing was heard coming from underneath the vehicle just as they were about to drive off.
The pair promptly drove to Fire Station 30 on Burnt Church Road, where firefighters on duty sprang into action. Tyler Williams, a senior mechanic with the department’s maintenance shop, carefully crawled beneath the car. Using his tools and steady hands, Williams patiently worked for about ten minutes to free the frightened kitten from its hiding spot.
The rescue operation, documented by the fire department on social media, highlighted the care and persistence required to safely retrieve the small animal without causing further distress or injury. Once freed, Flash was transported to the Beaufort County Animal Shelter, where she began recovering and gaining weight.
Animal shelters in South Carolina often see an influx of stray and abandoned pets, especially during the colder months. The shelter plans to make Flash available for fostering or adoption soon, offering the kitten a chance for a new home.
