ICE Agents Arrest Convicted Criminals Across Multiple States During Christmas Holiday

29 December 2025 U.S. News

WASHINGTON, D.C. — While many Americans gathered with family and friends to celebrate the Christmas holiday, agents from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) were actively conducting operations that led to the arrests of numerous convicted criminals across multiple states. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that these arrests took place on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, targeting illegal immigrants with serious criminal histories including gang affiliations, homicide convictions, and drug trafficking offenses.

Tricia McLaughlin, DHS Assistant Secretary, praised ICE agents for their dedication and courage, noting that while families were celebrating, these officers were “putting their lives on the line” to remove dangerous individuals from communities. “ICE continued delivering the American people the greatest gift of all: getting criminals out of our neighborhoods and protecting our families,” McLaughlin said in a statement.

The arrested individuals hailed from a variety of countries including Mexico, Cuba, Somalia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Sudan, the Dominican Republic, and Venezuela. Each had past criminal convictions that ranged from homicide and robbery to drug trafficking and reckless endangerment.

Among those apprehended was Samuel Juarez-Cruz, an illegal immigrant from Mexico convicted of criminal homicide, third-degree murder, and conspiracy to commit criminal homicide in Pennsylvania. Another significant arrest was Miguel Gonzalez-Toledo from Cuba, who had convictions for homicide and drug trafficking offenses in Florida. Mohamed Hassan Jeylani, from Somalia, faced multiple convictions including stolen vehicle possession, reckless endangerment, unlawful flight from police, and drug-impaired driving.

ICE operations also targeted gang members such as Lionel Arevalo-Rubio, an MS-13 gang member from El Salvador convicted of robbery in Los Angeles. Other arrests included Juan David Vazquez-Reyes from Mexico, convicted of death by auto or vessel in New Jersey, and Marcos Archila-Aquino from Guatemala, convicted of aggravated offenses.

These arrests underscore ICE’s ongoing efforts to enforce immigration laws and enhance public safety, even during national holidays. According to the Department of Homeland Security’s immigration enforcement guidelines, ICE prioritizes the removal of individuals who pose threats to public safety.

Deputy ICE Director Madison Sheahan recently highlighted the increasing threats faced by immigration agents, including vehicular attacks, underscoring the risks involved in such operations. The agency’s commitment to apprehending dangerous criminals remains steadfast despite these challenges.

These holiday arrests come amid broader enforcement efforts nationwide. For example, a recent operation in Houston resulted in the apprehension of over 3,500 criminal illegal aliens in just six weeks, demonstrating the scale and intensity of ICE’s work.
