Jimmy Kimmel Responds to Trump’s Claim That U.S. Is Being ‘Laughed At’
WASHINGTON — Comedian Jimmy Kimmel delivered a sharp retort to former President Donald Trump’s recent statement that the United States is being “laughed at.” The exchange came after Trump posted a lengthy message on his Truth Social platform during the Thanksgiving holiday, in which he criticized immigrants, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, former President Joe Biden, and others. Trump wrote that Americans have been “so nice in allowing our Country to be divided, disrupted, carved up, murdered, beaten, mugged, and laughed at.”
Kimmel responded during his Monday night monologue, saying, “I hate to be the one to tell you: Our country isn’t being laughed at. They’re laughing at you.” The comedian’s comment highlighted the former president’s sensitivity to being mocked, a recurring theme during his time in office and afterward.
Earlier this year, a video circulated showing several European leaders laughing over Trump’s repeated confusion between Albania and Armenia, an error that occurred multiple times during his first term. California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a frequent critic of Trump, also remarked in August that foreign leaders have been laughing behind Trump’s back.
The exchange underscores ongoing tensions between Trump and late-night television hosts, who have often targeted him with jokes and satire. Kimmel’s response was part of his regular commentary on political events and figures.
This interaction reflects the broader discourse surrounding Trump’s public statements and the reactions they provoke from media personalities and political figures alike.
