LOS ANGELES, Calif. — December 3, 2025 — The Los Angeles Clippers have officially parted ways with veteran NBA point guard Chris Paul, the team confirmed early Wednesday morning. The announcement followed a late-night social media post by Paul indicating he was sent home prior to the Clippers’ road game against the Atlanta Hawks.

Chris Paul, who is in his 21st NBA season, shared on Instagram around 3 a.m. that he had been sent home from the team’s travel plans, writing, “Just found out I’m being sent home,” accompanied by a peace emoji. The Clippers’ top basketball executive, Lawrence Frank, issued a statement confirming Paul’s departure and said the team intends to work with him on the next steps of his career, including exploring trade options.

“We are parting ways with Chris, and he will no longer be a part of the team,” Frank said, according to The Associated Press. “Chris is a legendary Clipper who has had a historic career. We will work with him on the next step of his career.”

Paul signed a $3.6 million contract to rejoin the Clippers this season. Earlier this year, speculation arose that this would be Paul’s final NBA season, a notion he appeared to confirm with a social media post expressing gratitude for what he described as “this last one.”

The Clippers have struggled this season, holding a 5-16 record and entering Wednesday’s game against Atlanta on a five-game losing streak. Despite offseason expectations of contending for a championship, the team’s performance has fallen short. Paul’s individual statistics have also declined, with career lows averaging 2.6 points, 3.3 assists, and 14.3 minutes per game.

Frank emphasized that the team does not blame Paul for their disappointing start. “I want to make one thing very clear. No one is blaming Chris for our underperformance. I accept responsibility for the record we have right now. There are a lot of reasons why we’ve struggled. We’re grateful for the impact Chris has made on the franchise,” he said.

Paul’s departure marks a significant moment for the Clippers as they navigate a difficult season and consider the future direction of their roster.
