Micah Parsons Fires Back at Cowboys and Jerry Jones Amid Trade Fallout

2 January 2026 Sports

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Micah Parsons, the star linebacker recently traded from the Dallas Cowboys to the Green Bay Packers, launched a sharp rebuke against his former team and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on social media Thursday. Parsons’ comments came in response to remarks from Dallas defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, who attributed the Cowboys’ defensive decline in 2025 partly to Parsons’ departure.

Eberflus acknowledged the impact Parsons had on the team’s defense, stating, “Obviously, you have an All-Pro pass rusher that wins really quick [Parsons] that’s certainly going to help any defense if it’s Micah or if it’s Myles [Garrett] or whoever that might be. But that impact player is always going to help to a certain degree in pass downs and other downs.” He added, “Again, you can’t look back, right? It is what it is, and then you just focus where you are.” Parsons responded by sharing the quote on X (formerly Twitter) accompanied by a string of laughing emojis, signaling his dismissal of the coordinator’s comments.

Parsons then directed his ire specifically at Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, accusing him of damaging his reputation. “Y’all want me to feel bad? Jerry Jones slandered my name to Cowboys media and national media for months. So I do think I can react to comment if I want to!” Parsons wrote.

The rift between Parsons and the Cowboys has been public since the linebacker requested a trade in August 2025. Parsons cited frustration with Jones, particularly over contract negotiations conducted without his agent present and disparaging remarks made about him while injured. “I no longer want to be held to close door negotiations without my agent present. I no longer want shots taken at me for getting injured while laying it on the line for the organization, our fans and my teammates. I no longer want narratives created and spread to the media about me,” Parsons said at the time.

Jones had previously commented on Parsons’ durability, referencing the linebacker’s injury history. In July 2025, Jones said, “He was hurt six games last year, seriously,” and compared Parsons to other high-paid players who missed significant time due to injury. Jones’ remarks were widely interpreted as critical and contributed to the strained relationship.

The ongoing feud highlights the complex dynamics between players and ownership in the NFL, where contract disputes and media narratives can quickly escalate. Parsons has emerged as a key defensive figure for the Packers, while the Cowboys continue to rebuild their defense following his departure.
