Minneapolis Unrest Thwarts ICE Arrest, Agent Severely Injured in Violent Clash
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — A targeted immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis was abruptly derailed on Sunday when violent unrest erupted, allowing a suspect with a serious criminal background to escape custody and leaving a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent permanently maimed. Federal officials reported that a mob of anti-ICE demonstrators confronted agents during the arrest, escalating tensions and forcing law enforcement to withdraw amid attacks.
Greg Bovino, U.S. Border Patrol Commander at Large, detailed the chaotic scene during a press conference, explaining that Border Patrol and ICE agents were conducting a planned operation when crowds surged and assaulted officers. The violence included an incident where an agitator bit off part of an ICE agent’s finger, an injury that will have lasting consequences for the officer.
