TUCSON, Ariz. — A new lead has emerged in the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of NBC’s “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie. A neighbor reported seeing a suspicious young man walking near Guthrie’s home approximately two weeks before she was believed to have been abducted.

Aldine Meister, who has lived in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood for nearly three decades, described the man as out of place in the typically safe and affluent area. “He didn’t have your typical walking gear on, and he had his hat pulled really far over his eyes,” Meister told Fox News Digital. She added that the man appeared younger and “just didn’t look like he was going out for a walk.”

Meister spotted the individual near an intersection leading to Guthrie’s residence but did not see him again before or after that day. Although she mentioned the sighting to her husband, she did not report it to authorities at the time.

Law enforcement officials have since begun reviewing security camera footage from the neighborhood to refine the timeline surrounding Guthrie’s disappearance. The Tucson Police Department is coordinating with federal agencies to piece together any relevant details. The case has drawn national attention, with the FBI offering assistance and a reward announced to encourage tips from the public.

Guthrie was last seen at her home in early February, and her disappearance has prompted a widespread search effort. The neighborhood’s low crime rate has made the incident particularly alarming for residents and local authorities alike.

Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the Tucson Police Department or the FBI. The FBI Phoenix Field Office is actively involved in the investigation, and tips can be submitted through their official channels.

For updates on the investigation and safety tips, residents are encouraged to visit the Tucson Police Department’s website. The City of Tucson’s official portal also provides resources for community alerts and emergency contacts.

As the search continues, the community remains vigilant. The discovery of this suspicious individual has added a crucial piece to the puzzle, potentially helping investigators narrow down the circumstances leading up to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie.

More information will be released as authorities complete their review of surveillance footage and gather additional evidence.
