Parolee with Criminal History Identified in Fatal Colorado Crash That Killed Father and Three Children
DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. — A parolee with a lengthy criminal record has been identified as the driver involved in a deadly crash that killed a Colorado father and three children, officials said Wednesday. The crash occurred Monday afternoon on Highway 83 near milepost 40.5 in Douglas County, Colorado State Patrol reported.
Walter Huling, 31, of Denver, was driving a stolen Toyota hatchback when he lost control of the vehicle, crossed into oncoming traffic, and collided head-on with a Ford sedan carrying Alvin Corado, 35, and three children. Corado and the children, MaKenlee Corado, 11, Toretto Corado, 8, and Jase Green, 12, all of Colorado Springs, died at the scene, along with Huling.
The Toyota had been reported stolen about an hour before the crash following a carjacking at Aurora’s Nine Mile Station, according to the Aurora Police Department. Authorities said Huling allegedly pulled a woman from the driver’s seat before fleeing in the vehicle.
Two other teenagers, MaKenlee and Toretto’s 13-year-old sister, Mia Corado, and Jase Green’s 14-year-old brother, who were passengers in the Ford sedan, were airlifted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Records from the Colorado Department of Corrections show Huling was on parole at the time of the crash. He had been arrested previously in Denver County in 2019 and Arapahoe County in 2015. Douglas County District Attorney George Brauchler told local media that Huling’s criminal history spans 11 pages and dates back to his childhood.
Brauchler expressed concern about the circumstances surrounding the crash, stating that the incident raises questions about the parole system and public safety. “This guy’s criminal history and the fact that he appears to have been on parole and this happened seems like we are failing the community,” Brauchler said.
The crash remains under investigation, with authorities continuing to review the details leading up to the collision.
