Police Search for Suspect After Columbus Dentist and Wife Found Shot Dead at Home
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Authorities are investigating the fatal shooting of Dr. Spencer Tepe, a local dentist, and his wife, Monique Tepe, who were found dead inside their Columbus home on Tuesday morning. The couple, who were approaching their fifth wedding anniversary, were discovered with apparent gunshot wounds. Two young children in the residence were unharmed.
Police responded to the home around 10 a.m. after a wellness check was requested by Dr. Mark Valrose, owner of Athens Dental Depot where Spencer Tepe worked. Valrose grew concerned when Spencer did not show up for work and attempts to contact the couple were unsuccessful. According to a Columbus Police Department statement, officers arrived at the residence at approximately 9:22 a.m. but initially received no response.
911 call recordings obtained through a public records request reveal the urgency of the situation. Valrose’s call to emergency dispatch at 9:03 a.m. expressed alarm over the couple’s uncharacteristic absence and lack of communication. A subsequent call from a friend who visited the home reported seeing a body inside.
Investigators have confirmed that no firearm was recovered at the scene, and there were no signs of forced entry, leading officials to rule out a murder-suicide scenario. Authorities are actively seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and locating a suspect. The Ohio Attorney General’s Office is supporting the ongoing investigation.
Neighbors and community members have expressed shock and sorrow over the tragedy. Dr. Tepe was known for his dedication to his dental practice and his family. The couple’s two children remain in the care of relatives while the investigation continues.
Police urge anyone with information about the incident or possible suspects to contact the Columbus Police Department or submit tips anonymously through the Crime Stoppers program.
This case is among several recent violent incidents in the area, prompting renewed calls for community vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement. The U.S. Department of Justice has noted the importance of timely information sharing to prevent further tragedies.
The investigation remains active, and authorities have not released additional details about possible motives or leads. The community continues to mourn the loss of the Tepe family while hoping for answers and justice.
