President Trump and Melania Join NORAD Santa Tracker Calls, Praise ‘Clean, Beautiful Coal’
PALM BEACH, Fla. — On Christmas Eve, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump participated in a cherished holiday tradition by answering calls from children tracking Santa Claus’s journey around the globe. From their Mar-a-Lago estate, the couple fielded calls through the North American Aerospace Defense Command’s (NORAD) Santa Tracker hotline, engaging with youngsters eager to share their Christmas wishes.
During the conversations, President Trump complimented one child who expressed a desire for a Kindle, calling the youngster a “high-IQ person” and emphasizing the need for more intelligent youth in the country. This interaction underscored Trump’s penchant for blending holiday cheer with his characteristic messaging.
In a lighthearted exchange, an 8-year-old girl from North Carolina asked if Santa would be upset if she didn’t leave cookies for him. Trump responded with a warm tone, saying, “I think he won’t get mad, but I think he’ll be very disappointed. Santa tends to be a little on the cherubic side.”
One memorable moment came when a child from Kansas wished for “not coal” for Christmas. Trump quickly interjected, praising “clean, beautiful coal” and urging the child to remember its value. “No, coal is clean and beautiful. Please remember that at all costs,” he said, reflecting his longstanding support for the coal industry, which he has frequently described in similar terms to bolster its image.
Trump’s remarks about coal come amid ongoing national debates about energy policy and environmental concerns. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) continues to regulate emissions from coal plants, while the Department of Energy (DOE) promotes a range of energy sources, including cleaner technologies.
In another call, the President expressed his fondness for Oklahoma, a state he won in the 2024 election, telling a child, “Santa loves you. Santa loves Oklahoma like I do. You know, Oklahoma was very good to me in the election. So, I love Oklahoma. Don’t ever leave Oklahoma, OK?”
Trump also touched on national security themes in a playful manner, telling children that NORAD tracks Santa “all over the world” to ensure that “he’s not infiltrated — that we’re not infiltrating into our country a bad Santa.” He reassured listeners that “we found that Santa is Good!”
The NORAD Santa Tracker is a long-standing program run by the Department of Defense (DoD) and NORAD itself (NORAD), providing real-time updates on Santa’s progress each Christmas Eve. The initiative engages families and children nationwide, blending technology with holiday spirit.
First Lady Melania Trump also participated in the calls, offering uplifting messages to children and reinforcing the festive mood. The couple’s involvement at Mar-a-Lago continues a tradition of presidential engagement with the NORAD Santa Tracker, which has been a holiday fixture for decades.
This year’s event drew attention not only for its joyful interactions but also for the President’s characteristic blend of holiday cheer with political and cultural commentary, particularly his emphasis on coal as an energy source and his praise for children’s intellect.
As families across the country celebrated the season, the NORAD Santa Tracker calls provided a moment of connection between the White House and young Americans, wrapped in the magic of Christmas Eve.
