Renowned Archaeologist Zahi Hawass Nears Discovery of Queen Nefertiti’s Lost Tomb
LUXOR, Egypt — The search for the tomb of Queen Nefertiti, one of ancient Egypt’s most iconic and enigmatic figures, may be approaching a breakthrough, according to veteran Egyptian archaeologist Zahi Hawass. “If I made this discovery, I think I would be happy to end my career with the most important discovery of the most important queen of Egypt,” Hawass declared. The Valley of the Kings, a UNESCO World Heritage site managed by Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, has been the focus of numerous excavations since the 19th century.
