Senator Cory Booker Marries Alexis Lewis in Private Washington Ceremony

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Senator Cory Booker, D-N.J., married his fiancé Alexis Lewis in a private ceremony in Washington, D.C., officials said Saturday. The couple shared photos of their wedding on social media less than three months after announcing their engagement.

Booker and Lewis held an interfaith ceremony, reflecting their Christian and Jewish backgrounds, at an undisclosed location in Washington, D.C., according to reports. Prior to this, they legally wed at the federal courthouse in Newark, New Jersey, with only their parents present.

On Sunday, Booker expressed gratitude on social media, stating, “We said ‘I do’ in two places that shaped us—Cory’s beloved Newark and Alexis’s hometown of Washington, D.C.—first at the courthouse, then with our families. Hearts full and so grateful.”

The couple met in May 2024 through a mutual friend known for matchmaking. Their initial blind date in Washington lasted more than five hours. Booker requested a second date the following night, which Lewis initially planned to miss due to a work trip to Newark. However, she delayed her flight to meet Booker again in Newark, where he was also headed.

Booker described their second date as “even more magical,” recounting a tapas dinner and a tour of significant places in his life, ending with their first kiss outside the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart.

Alexis Lewis is a director of investments at Brasa Capital Management, a real estate investment firm based in Los Angeles. She previously worked for former Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and holds a bachelor’s degree from New York University and an MBA from Cornell University.

Lewis reflected on their relationship, saying, “My girlfriends and I say, ‘Change your flight, change your life,’ because it’s exactly what happened. After so many years on my own, I’m not entirely sure I believed I would get married. But now, we’ve found each other at this stage of our lives, after epic personal journeys. And that deserves celebration.”

The couple’s wedding marks a new chapter following their brief but meaningful courtship, celebrated privately with family in two cities important to their lives.
