Texas Woman Arrested for Placing Razor Blades in Bread at Mississippi Walmarts
BILOXI, Mississippi — Authorities arrested Camille Benson, a 33-year-old woman from Texas, after several Walmart customers in Biloxi reported discovering razor blades hidden inside loaves of bread purchased at local stores. The unsettling incidents spanned over more than a week, prompting a swift law enforcement response and raising concerns about product safety during the busy holiday shopping season.
The Biloxi Police Department identified Benson as the suspect responsible for tampering with bread sold at two Walmart locations: a Walmart Supercenter and a Walmart Neighborhood Market. Initial complaints surfaced on December 5 when a customer at the Supercenter reported finding a razor blade inside their bread. Similar reports followed on December 8 at the Neighborhood Market. The situation escalated on December 14 when another customer at the Supercenter alerted employees after discovering a blade, leading to an inspection that uncovered several additional tampered loaves.
According to official statements, two more complaints were made on December 15, reinforcing the urgency of the investigation. Benson was taken into custody and charged with attempted mayhem, with bond set at $100,000. Authorities have not yet determined a motive for the dangerous act.
Walmart responded promptly by removing all potentially affected bread products from the shelves at the impacted stores and conducting thorough inspections. A company spokesperson emphasized that “the health and safety of our customers is always a top priority,” and assured the public of ongoing cooperation with law enforcement during the investigation. Customers who believe they may have purchased tampered products are urged to dispose of them immediately and visit their local Walmart for a full refund.
The Biloxi Police Department has advised residents to carefully inspect any bread purchased from Walmart stores within the city for sharp objects. While officials currently do not suspect other stores have been targeted, the incident has heightened awareness about food safety and product tampering.
This case underscores the importance of vigilance in retail environments and the critical role of community reporting in preventing harm. The Federal Bureau of Investigation and local police agencies continue to monitor the situation closely. Meanwhile, Walmart’s swift action aligns with guidelines from the Food and Drug Administration on ensuring food safety and preventing contamination.
As the investigation proceeds, officials remind consumers to remain cautious and report any suspicious products or behavior. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offers resources on food safety practices that can help reduce risks associated with foodborne hazards.
Camille Benson’s arrest highlights the potential dangers posed by deliberate food tampering and the need for continued vigilance by retailers and consumers alike. The Biloxi Police Department encourages anyone with additional information to come forward as they work to ensure community safety during this troubling episode.
