Theodore Roosevelt Returns to Life Through AI at National Park Exhibit
MEDORA, N.D. — A century after he left office, President Theodore Roosevelt is set to engage visitors in a groundbreaking new way at his namesake national park. The Interior Department announced plans to unveil an artificial intelligence exhibit that brings Roosevelt to life, allowing guests to interact with the legendary environmentalist and statesman through a human-avatar powered by revolutionary AI technology.
Set to open during the America250 celebration over the Fourth of July weekend, the exhibit will be housed at the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library located near the North Dakota-Montana border. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, a former governor of North Dakota, described the project as “one of the biggest things” the department is planning for the upcoming year.
Visitors will be able to ask questions and receive answers in Roosevelt’s own words, thanks to extensive sourcing from his prolific writings and speeches. Roosevelt, who authored more books than any other U.S. president and delivered more spoken-word content than any president except Donald Trump, will be rendered as a responsive AI avatar that captures his distinctive voice and character.
“If you come to the library, you’re going to have a chance to visit directly with Theodore Roosevelt,” Burgum told Fox News Digital. “Ask him a question, he’ll answer in his own words. So it’s going to be a fun experience. Kids are going to be dragging their parents to this museum.”
Theodore Roosevelt National Park preserves the rugged landscapes Roosevelt cherished when he came to the Dakota Territory in 1883 to hunt bison. The park’s vast prairies and badlands remain much as they did during Roosevelt’s time, offering visitors a glimpse into the environment that shaped his conservation legacy. The exhibit will also explore Roosevelt’s ranching life, his interactions with Native American tribes, and the cattle-ranch boom of the 1880s.
The initiative aligns with the Interior Department’s broader efforts to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary and to leverage technology in enhancing public engagement with national heritage. The Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library, which will host the AI exhibit, is part of the department’s commitment to preserving presidential history and expanding access to educational resources.
