Therapy Horse in Germany Recognized as World’s Shortest Living Horse
MONROE TOWNSHIP, N.J. — November 26, 2025 — A therapy horse residing in Germany has been officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the shortest living horse, standing at 21.1 inches tall. The horse, named Pumuckel, was adopted by Carola Weidemann in 2020 when he was five months old and approximately 18 inches tall. Weidemann said she was surprised by his small size upon first seeing him.
Guinness World Records verified Pumuckel’s height at the withers, confirming that he is about an inch and a half shorter than the previous record-holder for the shortest living male horse. Pumuckel is trained as a therapy horse and regularly visits nursing homes, hospices, schools, and facilities for people with disabilities.
Weidemann described Pumuckel as having a lovable character, noting that he is very good with children and enjoys being scratched and cuddled. She added that he loves being the center of attention during his visits.
The recognition highlights Pumuckel’s unique stature and his role in providing therapeutic support to various communities in Germany.
