Trump Hosts Zelenskyy at Mar-a-Lago as Ukraine Vows to End War

PALM BEACH, Fla. — In a significant diplomatic move aimed at ending the protracted conflict in Ukraine, President Donald Trump will host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at his Mar-a-Lago estate this Sunday. The meeting comes after four years of war that has devastated Ukraine and strained international relations.

Zelenskyy, speaking publicly ahead of the talks, emphasized Ukraine’s readiness to “do whatever it takes” to bring the war to a close. “For us, priority number one – or the only priority – is ending the war,” Zelenskyy declared on his social media platform X. “We need to be strong at the negotiating table. To be strong, we need the support of the world: Europe and the United States.”

The Ukrainian leader’s statement came in the wake of a renewed and intense Russian offensive against Kyiv, involving hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles overnight on Saturday. The assault resulted in at least one fatality and 27 injuries, according to local authorities. Zelenskyy characterized the attack as a stark demonstration of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s determination to continue the conflict.

President Trump, who has spent much of the holiday period at Mar-a-Lago, spoke with Putin by phone ahead of the meeting with Zelenskyy. Trump described the call as “good and very productive,” though he withheld further details. He announced that the meeting would take place in the main dining room of Mar-a-Lago and invited the press to cover the event.

Trump has positioned himself as a key figure in brokering peace, stating he will make the final decisions on any agreement to end the war. His administration has reported “concrete progress” in negotiations with European partners, signaling a coordinated international effort to resolve the conflict. The U.S. Department of State has consistently underscored the importance of a diplomatic resolution that respects Ukraine’s sovereignty.

Despite the ongoing violence, Zelenskyy stressed the necessity of unity among Western allies. “If the whole world – Europe and America – is on our side, together we will stop Putin,” he said. “Because together we will all want the same thing: an end to the war, peace – a normal peace, a sustainable peace, safe for the whole world.”

Russia and Ukraine have struggled to find common ground in previous negotiations, particularly over territorial disputes that have repeatedly caused talks to collapse. The stakes remain high as both sides seek a resolution that secures their respective interests.

As the world watches closely, the upcoming Mar-a-Lago meeting represents a critical juncture. The Department of Defense continues to monitor the situation, while diplomatic channels remain active. The outcome of this high-profile summit could shape the future of Eastern Europe and influence global security dynamics.

For now, the hope is that dialogue will prevail over conflict, as leaders from Ukraine, Russia, and the United States engage in what could be a historic effort to end one of the most enduring wars of the decade.
